As a power supply for green energy, lithium-ion batteries (LiBs) are being widely used across many fields, therefore their increased performance and safety are becoming the new challenge for LiBs manufacturers and researchers.
Among all the components in LiBs, the electrolyte is the most critical since its role is to transport the positive lithium ions between the cathode and anode. However, impurities in the electrolyte can severely impact battery safety and lifetime. Monitoring the concentration of these impurities and ensuring that they are present at low levels is of great importance during production.
This work presents a reliable method for routine quality control analysis of lithium hexafluorophosphate (LiPF6) battery electrolyte, in accordance with China standard HJ/T 4067-2015. With the appropriate sample introduction system and simplified sample preparation, the electrolyte samples were directly analyzed using the Avio® 220 Max hybrid simultaneous ICP-OES. By utilizing Multicomponent Spectral Fitting, spectral interferences are eliminated, providing excellent detection limits, accuracy, and stability. The outstanding sensitivity of the Avio 220 Max ICP-OES is ideally suited for the routine quality control of LiPF6 electrolyte samples.
